CFS 360 E. Child Curr/Methds/Matl(EDS)

Prerequisite: CFS 130, GSTR 210, or permission of instructor

This course is designed to study the foundations of early childhood education curriculum, and the methods and materials used in developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children. Using current research, best current practices, national and state standards, assessment practices, and other resources, the student will explore the nature of and the appropriate uses of various areas of early childhood curriculum. Special attention will be given to the developmental sequence of language and literacy skills including the use of children's literature to foster language and literacy development; developmental sequence of math skills and appropriate math activities; play in learning and development; and the implementation of activities in these areas as well as other curricular areas. 10 hours of directed field experience are required.
