PSYC 101 General Psychology

Through this introduction to psychology, students will develop an understanding of the basic principles of psychology and be able to apply these principles to psychological problems and their own experiences. Students will be able to describe how psychologists do their research and understand how psychologists explain phenomena. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to summarize, analyze, and critically evaluate psychological information.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify and organize information and the impact of psychology concepts on human behavior.
  2. Analyze the possible impact of stress on human behavior by generating ideas, exploring various perspectives and considering alternatives.
  3. Analyze psychological concepts and assess their influence on human physical, cognitive, and emotional responses.
  4. Apply psychological concepts and theories to human experience including one’s own.
  5. Evaluate various influences on mental health.
  6. Apply appropriate strategies of inquiry and exploration in order to find and use information ethically in the study of an issue in psychology.
  7. Evaluate the credibility of primary and secondary sources in the study of an issue in psychology.
