WELD 220 Welding Inspection I
This course introduces students to the foundational knowledge, technical skills, and industry standards required to perform the duties of a welding inspector, including weld evaluation, code compliance, symbols, processes, and inspection documentation.

A graduate should be able to
- Interpret welding codes, standards, specifications, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine inspection requirements.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of welding and cutting processes, welding terminology, and basic welding metallurgy.
- Explain the principles, applications, and limitations of common nondestructive testing (NDT) methods used in weld inspection.
- Identify weld discontinuities and defects, analyze their causes, and evaluate weld quality using standard inspection tools and visual examination techniques.
- Describe the qualification, testing, and certification requirements for becoming a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and apply code criteria to inspection scenarios.
