New Student Orientation Programs
New Student Orientation programs (composed of New Student Orientation (online), Dragon Days, Welcome Week, and Dragon Connection Fair) prepare students for the critical first year of college. By providing important information about academic policies and procedures, college services, and student activities, these programs help students avoid potential obstacles to the achievement of their goals while enhancing the enjoyment of campus life.
New Student Orientation (online) can be found at howardcc.edu/nso and is required for all incoming students taking credit classes. Topics covered include: campus technology, financial aid, student support resources, and much more. Dragon Days are an in-person supplement to New Student Orientation and is provided as an option for students to partake in prior to Fall and Spring semesters. Here, students have the opportunity to meet college faculty and staff, engage with fellow students, and get a feel of the campus atmosphere and its resources.
Welcome Week is a weeklong series of events that celebrate the start of the fall and spring semesters while encouraging student connections with each other and to the college community. Dragon Connection Fair is a campus-wide fair occurring every fall and spring semester that provides students with information on how to connect with student clubs, campus resources, and community organizations/resources pivotal to their college success.
In addition to the general mandatory New Student Orientation (online), some programs/cohorts may require additional pre-semester onboarding sessions that contain content specific to that program. Further information about New Student Orientation programs can be provided to students as part of the enrollment process and through the office of Student Life.
