5-2 General Rules

Each standing committee of the Senate shall hold at least two (2) meetings during the academic year to conduct the business of the Senate with which it has been charged.


  • Committee chairs shall be elected by the committee membership each year. Committee chairs shall call meetings, preside at meetings, report to the Senate annually, and communicate with other committees of the Institute as necessary.
  • Each standing committee must have at least one (1) representative from each of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and the School of Nursing. Committee members shall be elected by the Faculty.
  • The Nominating Committee shall inform the Faculty of the number of open committee positions and the qualification of the officers or Senate members to be elected each year and prepare a slate to be voted on in the spring election.
  • Committee members shall hold terms of office of three (3) years. Approximately one-third (1/3) of the members shall be elected each year.
  • If a committee vacancy occurs, in consultation with the committee chair, the Faculty Chair appoints a faculty member to serve until the next election.
  • Each committee shall function under an established set of Standing Rules approved by the Senate. Committee minutes and reports must be filed with the Clerk and be available to members of the Faculty. Minutes of meetings must be available within one (1) month after a meeting.
  • Each committee is required to submit a written annual report to the Senate to be distributed to the Faculty no later than the last meeting of the Faculty for that academic year and kept on file and archived through the Office of the Clerk.
