Dismissal

The termination for cause of a faculty member prior to the expiration of the term of an appointment is a dismissal. The termination of a faculty member because of substantial specialty or program modifications, or financial exigencies, is not a dismissal. A nonrenewal is not a dismissal. Decisions for dismissal shall be considered in accordance with the "Problem Resolution Procedures."

Cause for dismissal, includes, but is not be limited to, one or more of the following:

  • substantial failure to discharge the responsibilities and duties of a faculty member;
  • any substantial interruption of service to the Institute which has not been approved by the Board of Trustees;
  • sexual harassment;
  • willful and deliberate noncompliance with the "Policy on Equal Opportunity;"
  • moral turpitude;
  • unprofessional conduct which seriously and detrimentally affects the educational goals of the Institute or which might cause the Institute to be held in disrepute or legal consequences.
