f. Faculty Review Panel
When appropriate, the Provost may convene a Faculty Review Panel composed of trained faculty members selected for impartiality and relevant experience. Panel members will be drawn from a pool of eligible faculty identified in collaboration with Faculty Senate leadership or its designated committee.
The panel serves in an advisory capacity and provides a faculty perspective on whether University policy or academic freedom standards were appropriately applied. This occurs after a matter is accepted for review and need for a Faculty Review Panel is established.
The Faculty Review Panel will be composed of trained faculty members, which may include academic unit leaders (AULs), selected for their impartiality, relevant experience, and ability to provide thoughtful peer perspective. Panel members must complete onboarding and orientation activities specific to responsible service, conflicts of interest, and procedural compliance as a Faculty Review Panelist prior to serving in this capacity.
In recognition of the University’s commitment to shared governance, the Provost seeks collaboration with the Faculty Senate to identify qualified faculty eligible and receive nominations for review panel service. The Provost may consult with Faculty Senate leadership or its designated committee (e.g., Faculty Affairs Committee) in the identification of qualified faculty candidates for a given review.
Final authority for appointing panel members rests with the Provost or designee, who is responsible for ensuring appropriate expertise, independence, and absence of conflicts of interest. This should be done in collaboration with the Faculty Senate Reference Committee.
