Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
Medical Knowledge
a. Apply basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, genetics) to the diagnosis and management of specific medical conditions
b. Recognize associations of disease conditions and complications through application of scientific concepts
c. Identify underlying processes or pathways responsible for a specific condition or disease
d. Recognize health disparities, including health risks and health-related behaviors that disproportionately affect certain individuals and groups.
e. Recognize risk factors for conditions amenable to prevention or detection in an asymptomatic individual.
f. Recognize normal and abnormal values for routine laboratory and diagnostic studies.
g. Recognize the pharmacokinetic properties, indications, and contraindications of pharmacologic agents, and apply this to safe and effective selection and administration of medications.
Clinical Reasoning and Problem Solving Skills
a.Determine a differential diagnosis based upon historical information, physical examination findings, and laboratory and diagnostic study findings.
b.Prioritize clinical interventions in emergent, acute, and chronic care situations.
c.Apply social determinants of health in the development of patient care plans.
d.Identify the indications and risks associated with, and potential complications of, laboratory and diagnostic studies.
e.Select a clinical intervention plan that is consistent with the working diagnosis
f.Interpret the results of routine laboratory and diagnostic studies.
g.Communicate diagnostic findings and the care plan to a patient in clear, understandable language.
