Phl 470 Philosophy of Science

History and philosophy of the scientific method. Topics include an overview of the major models of the scientific method (inductivism, falsificationism, Kuhnian paradigms, etc.) and issues pertaining to the accuracy of these models and their rationality such as theory- ladenness of observation, testing-holism, and the incommensurability of theory change. Also offered for graduate-level credit as Phl 570 and may be taken only once for credit. Recommended prerequisites: 8 credits in philosophy and upper-division standing.
