The Bachelor of Arts in Music Studies is structured as a flexible program that allows the student to meet their educational goals through a music curriculum centered in non-performance coursework that can be individualized (in consultation with an advisor). In addition to the required and elective Music coursework, students are required to take 66 credit hours outside of Music.
Music Studies will prepare students educationally for a wide variety of endeavors and career objectives. It provides a strong foundation for students wishing to pursue opportunities in songwriting, music production, arts administration, and artist management. This is an advantage of this program that has been built with flexibility in mind for our students. By removing the heavy focus on coursework in music performance, it allows them to follow a path that is specific to their career goals. It lays a solid foundation for continued, lifelong learning as they continue to explore opportunities throughout their lives. Moreover, this degree will also prepare students for graduate study in Ethnomusicology, Musicology, and Music Theory as well as other areas.
