Campus Safety Advisory Committee
Pursuant to the N.Y.S. Education Law Article 129-A, section 6431, the Campus Safety Advisory Committee reviews current campus security policies and procedures and makes recommendations for their improvement.
The committee will be responsible for providing advice and recommendations to support the campus's compliance in the following areas:
- Review of various security policies/procedures and recommend programming and training to educate the campus community on issues related to personal safety, crime prevention, sexual assault prevention, reporting, communication campus response protocols, and referral to appropriate support for victims.
- Identify and assess hazards and recommend solutions related to workplace safety, environmental health, and compliance with regulations.
- Identify campus safety priorities and recommended improvements (e.g., lighting, facility conditions, emergency procedures).
- Coordination of Title IX, Clery Act, and related SUNY/state compliance efforts such as reporting or referring sexual assaults and complaints to appropriate authorities and support of victims during investigations and support of or referral to appropriate support for victims.
- Annual reporting on campus safety initiatives and compliance outcomes.
The committee must consist of a minimum of six members, at least half of whom shall be female. The Campus Safety Advisory Committee consists of three student representatives nominated by the Student Association, three faculty members nominated by the University Senate, and at least two individuals appointed by the University President.
The committee reports, in writing, to the University President or chief administrative officer on its findings and recommendations at least once each academic year, and such reports shall be available upon request.
