HSC 553 Counseling Military Families

This course provides a broad understanding of the U.S. military community as a cultural institution and how to address the unique counseling issues that impact military personnel and their families based on current research. Military culture, unique challenges, risk and protective factors, clinical assessment and intervention, and counseling competencies for working with service members and their families are reviewed. Current Veterans Administration eligibility requirements for counselors are discussed, along with additional military-focused ethical and professional issues. Pre-requisite(s): None. Co-requisite(s): None. 3 semester hours
