RLL 595AK ST/Language Arts/ Social Media and P-12 Youth Literature

This course focuses on social media as a creative force in youth literature (P-12) and offers interactive learning experiences with exciting digital resources for the classroom, school, and library. Participants will analyze potential hazards of social networking, protection of work posted online, and the impact of social media on diversity in youth literature. The course begins with the Center for Teaching Through Children’s Books (CTCB)/Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ Institute Day on February 6, 2016 (separate registration required), followed by additional class time in a blended face-to-face format. Participants will identify, review, and plan for instructional use of a social media tools in the classroom, school, or library, as well as review/revise school, district, or library social media policies. Pre-requisite(s): Bachelor's Degree. Co-requisite(s): Candidates must register for, and attend all sessions of the corresponding CTCB Institute Day on February 6, 2016, NLU North Shore Campus. 1 semester hour
