Middle Grades Education Subsequent Teaching Endorsement
Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education or special education may add a subsequent teaching endorsement in middle grades education by satisfying requirements listed below.
Candidates for a subsequent teaching endorsement should be admitted to NLU if they wish to have their transcripts reviewed and evaluated for the endorsement.
In addition to National College of Education Graduate Admission Requirements, program requires:
- Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
Endorsement Requirements:
- 18 SH of college-level content coursework specific to or inclusive of the Middle Grades in the area sought, this includes:
- Content specific methods coursework
- Middle Grades content area test specific to the content area sought
- A grade of “C” or better in all coursework is required
Upon completion of all endorsement requirements, candidates may apply for a State endorsement in middle grades education though NLU's entitlement process.
