English as a Second Language/ Bilingual Endorsements
NLU courses meet the Illinois standards for endorsement in ESL/Bilingual Education. Earning the endorsements calls for both coursework and fulfilling additional requirements.
In addition to the National Louis University Graduate Admission Requirements, applicants must:
- Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in the teaching field (teaching endorsements can’t be added to administrative and school support PEL’s)
- Complete a minimum of 100 of clinical/observation hours or three months of teaching experience in a bilingual setting (up to 20 clinical/clock hours may be earned in each course at NLU)
Program Details:
- Requires 18 SH for completion
- A grade of “C” or better in all coursework is required
- Requires a passing score on the Illinois Target Language Proficiency Test
- Requires completion of a minimum of 100 of clinical/observation hours or three months of teaching experience in a bilingual setting (up to 20 clinical/clock hours may be earned in each course at NLU)
