Literacy Education/Reading Endorsement
The literacy education faculty have designed a program that works to develop classroom teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches, and district reading personnel whose practice grows out of a solid grounding in literacy theory and research. This includes consideration of:
- Best practices and national and literacy standards.
- The variety of methodologies and resources available for creating classroom literacy environments.
- Principles and practices of working with students needing extra help with literacy.
- Authentic assessment practices.
- Leadership in literacy program/curriculum development and implementation.
Completion of the following coursework, the PRAXIS Specialty Area Exam in Reading, and a 90 hour practicum are required for an Oregon reading endorsement. Courses numbered 808 and 810 are not allowed.
