PHAR 614 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
This course is designed to introduce students to the foundation of public health with emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention, as well as the role of pharmacists in public health. Topics include five core areas, three functions, and ten essentials of public health, determinants of health, health behavioral theories, and principles of health promotion and disease prevention. Students will compare and contrast micro versus macro levels of public health and identify individual and population-based interventions that impact diverse patients and populations. Students will design and develop a community-based intervention/program as well as plan for implementation and evaluation of the health intervention/program that address current and future public health risks and needs.
