CMHC 685 Fieldwork Practicum

This applied experience is an introduction to supervised clinical practice. Students begin to demonstrate their understanding of the key concepts of professional counseling. They do so by applying theoretical knowledge and skills, communication/counseling techniques, and professional dispositions learned throughout their program. Cultural competency development, trauma-informed counseling, and a health/wellness approach to counseling is thematic throughout this experience. Students will fulfill their 100-hour experience by completing 40 direct and 60 indirect hours under the supervision of the site supervisor and the faculty supervisor. The Practicum involves students participating in various activities that a professional counselor is expected to perform, such as intake interviews, assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning. and individual, group, and family counseling. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
