ARTT-214 Portraiture II

This course is a continuation of ARTT-213. Students move on to color work and portrait painting, using the combined knowledge of anatomy, drawing, color theory, and painting techniques.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Define the planes and form of the head as two-dimensional shapes.
2. 2. Visually proportion the shapes and spaces that define the head.
3. 3. Demonstrate the rhythms and relationships inherent in the portrait.
4. 4. Create the relationships and shapes that provide a likeness of a particular sitter.
5. 5. Compose the portrait for effective artistic expression.
6. 6. Use values to reveal form, underlying anatomical structure, and the effect of light on the subject.
7. 7. Use color mixing to create the flesh tones, temperatures, values, and intensities that reveal form,
   underlying anatomy, and the effect of light on the subject.
