Military Transfer Credit Policy

MGH Institute of Health Professions (MGH IHP) adheres to the VALOR Act Academic Credit Evaluation Policy. MGH IHP uses the American Council on Education (ACE), CLEP, and DSST guidelines and applies the same standards to credits for military education as those applied to coursework from accredited colleges and universities.

As part of the application process, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, should be sealed and sent directly from the institution to the MGH IHP, or a CAS system when applicable. Undergraduate and graduate coursework are included in this requirement. Although a military transcript is not required as part of the application process, you should arrange for the MGH IHP Office of Admissions to receive an official copy of your military transcript.

Request military transcript:

  • Request DANTES transcript: www.dantes.doded.mil/index.html
  • Request CLEP transcript: http://clep.collegeboard.org/military
  • The JST military transcript is available in electronic format only and may be requested via the Joint Services Transcript (JST) website.
  • For official transcripts, the Office of Admissions strongly encourages the use of online electronic transcript ordering which can be sent directly via email to admissions at admissions@mghihp.edu. If this is not an option and your organization does not participate in electronic transcript delivery, please request official transcripts to be sent to the mailing address listed below:

Transferring Military Credit

  • Transfer credit is generally awarded if your previous coursework is comparable in content and scope to courses offered by MGH IHP and you earned a grade (or its equivalent) of a C+ or higher in the course.
  • The Admissions Office and Associate Dean of the School of Nursing will evaluate credits within the context of Institute and School of Nursing Policy. They will determine whether or not a course will be accepted for transfer. All transfer credits will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
