CNST 205 Building Construction Contract Documents

This course introduces students to the technical and legal documents that are used in the construction industry. The course includes a review of plans, specifications, and construction contracts, and incorporates a detailed examination of construction contract administration and contractor project management procedures.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Identify the components of construction documents (plans, specifications and contracts).
  2. 2. Recognize and apply industry standard terminology related to construction documents.
  3. 3. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Owners, Architect/Engineers and Contractors and others.
  4. 4. Define the term “preconstruction” and understand its value during both design and procurement.
  5. 5. Utilize industry standard procedures for the administration of meetings, submittals and site visits.
  6. 6. Implement quality assurance and quality control processes.
  7. 7. Interpret contract documents and understand the process for making contract modifications.
  8. 8. Demonstrate an ability to develop and manage a construction project documentation system.
  9. 9. Discuss contractual responsibilities specific to executing the work, payment and closeout.
  10. 10. Demonstrate an appreciation for the complete scope of construction project administration.
