MUSC 228 Audio Techniques I

This course is an introduction to audio recording, both the theory and practical applications. Through exercises and projects, students will study and work with the concepts and tools used in recording sound. Live recording and studio- based recording will both be emphasized.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of psychoacoustics as it relates to audio recording.
  2. 2. Utilize a working knowledge of microphones.
  3. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of recording studio hardware, software, and procedures.
  4. 4. Share documented experimentation with recording technology and techniques.
  5. 5. Record audio at a live event utilizing HCC equipment.
  6. 6. Make a recording utilizing the music department studio.
  7. 7. Demonstrate knowledge of uses of sound in commercial industry and the arts, and the fundamental role
    recording technology plays.
  8. 8. Discuss topics using vocabulary and concepts from the audio recording field.
  9. 9. Judge the relevance of the application of specific technologies to audio recording and presentation.
  10. 10. Discuss recording projects with fellow students or employers.
  11. 11. Present recording projects using a variety of technology-based delivery systems.
