Competencies
Students must obtain an 80 (B-) or better on all course and lab competency components of a course. Competency components of each course are clearly labeled on the course syllabus. Students may be offered remediation at the discretion of course faculty or as indicated on the course syllabus. Students must obtain an 80 or better on all lab competency components of a course. Failure to attain the required 80 or better in a competency assessment will necessitate that the student repeat this competency in order to progress in the curriculum. Failure to attain the required 80 or better during the remedial competency will result in a notification of concern and the student will be reviewed by the Committee on Academic Policies and Procedures (CAPP). The Committee may require remedial action, may place the student on probation, or may recommend termination to the program faculty for repeated poor performance. Students given the option to remediate must attain an 80 or better during the remedial. If they receive an 80 or better, the grade will be recorded as an 80.
Students who are not given the option to remediate the competency or fails to attain the required 80 or better during the remedial competency will receive a Notification of Concern (Appendix E) and the student will be reviewed by the Committee on Academic Policies and Procedures. The Committee may require remedial action, may place the student on probation, or may recommend dismissal for repeated poor performance.
