ENGR 486 Tissue Engineering

Study of tissue functionality and biomaterial design including study of the extracellular matrix and biomimetic biomaterial scaffold design. Examines the basic concepts underlying physiological responses to wounds and foreign materials. Topics include biomaterial scaffolds, relevant cell types, soluble regulators and their genes, therapeutic delivery, mechanical loading, and ethics. Laboratory includes culture with mammalian cells. Offered odd years. (Course fees apply.)
