Placement Testing
A student may be exempt from placement testing if one of the following criteria has been met:
1. Have graduated from high school. Placement is dependent on unweighted high school GPA (See Course Placement) or;
2. Have received an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution or;
3. Have taken the GED, since 2014, with a score of 145 or greater in each subject area or;
4. Have taken the HiSET with a score of 15 or greater for each of the five components and a grade of 4 or greater on the essay or;
5. Have graduated with an Adult High School Diploma since 2021 is dependent on unweighted GPA (see course placement).
6. Meet the ACT or SAT subject area test score requirements or;
7. Have successfully completed ENG 111 with a grade of "C" or better from an accredited institution or;
8. Have successfully completed a college level Math course equivalent to or higher than required math course, with a grade of "C" or better from an accredited institution.
An official copy of the student's high school transcript, college transcript(s), GED or ACT/SAT test scores must be sent to:

A student may also request a transcript be sent electronically from another institution to Western Piedmont Community College, as long as the sending institution has an option to securely submit the transcript. Electronic transcripts may be sent via email to officialtranscripts@wpcc.edu.
If a student has earned an Adult High School Diploma before 2021and does not have an associate's degree or higher or has not taken a college level English or Math course, the student may be required to take a placement test. Contact the Director of Advising, 828-448-3155, with questions regarding placement testing.
Testing accommodations may be available to Students with documented disabilities. Students requiring special test accommodations must make arrangements in advance of the scheduled test date through the Office of Disability Services, 828-448-3153.
