Procedures for Initial Faculty Appointments

The process for becoming part of the Institute Faculty is designed to assure compliance with regulatory issues, provide a framework for clear communication between the candidate and the Institute, and demonstrate a welcoming and inclusive attitude to those being appointed to join the Institute community. To assure that hiring is completed seamlessly, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Upon conclusion of a search process that has prior approval, the dean/chair/director recommends the candidate for appointment to the Institute Faculty to the Provost. Prior to making an offer to the candidate, the dean/chair/director should provide the Office of the Provost with:
    1. Candidate's CV
    2. Candidate's cover letter
    3. Candidate's reference letters
    4. Application for Rank
  2. Once the rank has been approved by the Provost, the dean will submit a Faculty Hiring Report to Human Resources.
  3. The dean will consult with Human Resources to send out the offer letter. Human Resources will generate and mail the appointment letter and benefits package and will also notify unsuccessful candidates.
  4. The search committee chair submits a completed Applicant Data Form to Human Resources.
  5. The new hire attends new employee orientation as well as faculty orientation conducted by the Office of the Provost.
  6. The Human Resources Manager maintains search records for two years.
