Appointment and Promotion Committee

COMMITTEE CHARGE The purposes of this committee are to review and vote on requests for initial rank (Associate Professor and Professor) and promotion, and such other business as determined to require the attention of the committee. The findings regarding initial rank (Associate Professor and Professor) and promotion culminate in recommendations to the Provost.  

RESPONSIBILITY OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS Committee members review, discuss, and vote on requests for initial rank (Associate Professor and Professor) and promotion. Committee members must notify the committee chair if unable to attend scheduled meetings.

RESPONSIBILITY OF COMMITTEE CHAIR

  • Schedule and convene all meetings
  • Establish agenda
  • Moderate committee discussions
  •  Communicate committee’s recommendations to the Provost
  •  Serve as liaison between the committee and the Chair of the Senate
  • Assign recorder to take and distribute committee minutes
  • Forward approved minutes to the Clerk of the Senate
  • File an annual report with the Clerk of the Senate at least 10 business days before the last Senate meeting in June.

CONDUCT OF MEETINGS At the first meeting of the year the committee will elect the committee chair. Agenda items will be collected by the chair from all interested parties and distributed to committee members one week prior to meeting. Meetings will be conducted by presenting each agenda item for discussion and proposed action. Decisions are determined by majority vote. Members who are not able to attend may submit their recommendation/vote electronically to the chair, who then communicates it to the committee. Minutes will be recorded by an assigned individual and distributed to committee members for approval within two weeks of the meeting. Approved minutes will be forwarded to the Clerk of the Senate. Meetings may take place in person, via teleconference, or online conferencing.

DISPOSITION OF BUSINESS The disposition of each of the agenda items must be noted in the minutes.

Decisions concerning initial rank and promotion are presented to the Provost by the chair of the committee.
