NUR 100 Introduction to Professional Nursing and Healthcare

This course examines the basic concepts of professional nursing, its medical and nursing history and social context as well as the nursing code of ethics and the profession’s social contract with society. Also studied are the intersection of culture and professional nursing values, with a focus on self-development of cultural awareness and competence, as the United States’ healthcare and culture are explored and compared to Global healthcare and cultural influences.

NUR 101 Orientation to the BSN

This live synchronous course is designed to prepare students for their academic journey at NLU. Research has shown that RN-BSN students often face challenges with online learning leading to a lac of persistence. To address this, the course will meet 6 times synchronously via Zoom to orient the students to learning in an asynchronous online environment. Each module and assignment will help the student become familiar with the online learning setup. By the course's end the student will be fully ready to engage in the online asynchronous learning journey.

NUR 102 Bridge to the BSN

Critical thinking and clinical judgment along with interprofessional collaboration are hallmarks of a professional nurse and are the foundation of this course. Students will engage in experiential learning experiences to demonstrate beginning competence in critical thinking and clinical judgment. Students will explore nursing roles available to BSN prepared RNs.
