SPE 450 Characteristics of Individuals with Disabilities

This course explores the categories and characteristics of disabilities under the IDEA, emphasizing their impact on learning and development. Proficiency is developed in creating, implementing, and evaluating IEPs and IFSPs, incorporating evidence-based practices and collaboration with families and professionals. Candidates will focus on comprehending the varying needs and learning styles of individuals with both high- and low-incidence disabilities, and the subsequent influence of these factors on curriculum design, planning, and instructional strategies. Through collaboration and reflective practice, students will learn to provide inclusive instructional opportunities and supports that promote the success of individuals with exceptionalities in educational settings.
