Graduate Standards of Progress - Masters and Education Specialist Degrees

Academic Good Standing

Students are considered to be in Academic Good Standing if their cumulative GPA is at or above a 3.00.

Academic Probation

Students not meeting the criterion to qualify for academic good standing will be placed on Academic Probation.

Continued Academic Probation

Students on Academic Probation who do not qualify for Academic Good Standing in their next semester will be continued on Academic Probation if their semester grade point average is at least 3.00.

Academic Dismissal

Students not in Academic Good Standing will be Academically Dismissed if they:

  1. Do not qualify for Continued Academic Probation, or

  2. Have a cumulative GPA below 2.00.

Students may appeal dismissal decisions by petitioning the Provost.

 

Sufficient Progress

  • To maintain active status, students must complete no less than three credit hours within two consecutive semesters.

  • The maximum time frame to complete a program that is 48-semester credit hours or fewer is five years.

  • The maximum time frame to complete programs exceeding 48-semester credit hours is seven years.

  • A student who does not attempt any coursework in an academic year will be required to participate in an abbreviated reapplication process.

Students who fall below the minimum standards of progress are subject to the following actions: academic probation, dismissal from the degree program, or be required to reapply to the degree program. Students are advised to contact their financial aid advisor for information as to how these situations may potentially impact their financial aid.
