Art 375 Mold Making and Casting
Exploration of the primary tools, materials, and processes used in mold making technology as it relates to contemporary sculptural practice. An overview of various methods of both rigid and flexible mold making will be explored as well as both solid and hollow shell casting techniques and materials. There will be an emphasis on studio etiquette, craftsmanship and production as well as creative applications of mold making and casting. The conceptual possibilities of the multiple will be explored. Students will also be exposed to contemporary artists who utilize mold making as a central part of their practice. Course builds upon the basic mold making introduced in lower division sculpture courses. Open to non-majors. Recommended preparation: Art 291 and Art 292 (expected of art & art history majors).
