Mission
The mission of the School Counseling Program is to provide an environment in which students seeking to become Certified School Counselors can gain academic knowledge and therapeutic skills necessary to meet the challenges faced by students, parents, and Texas K-12 educational systems. The program prepares students to sit for the ExCET Examination* and to implement a Texas Comprehensive, Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program.
Goals
Goal 1: To provide students seeking to become certified Professional School Counselors with the academic knowledge and therapeutic skills necessary to meet the challenges faced by students, parents, and Texas K-12 educational systems.
Goal 2: To provide students with knowledge and skills to implement a Texas Comprehensive, Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program.
Goal 3: To prepare students to sit for the Texas ExCET Examination.
**To qualify for the ExCET Examination #152, required by the state of Texas to become a Certified School Counselor, the student must meet the state’s requirements, including but not limited to possession of a valid Texas Teacher Certificate or equivalent and two years of teaching experience
