b. Dismissal

The termination for cause of a faculty member prior to the expiration of the term of an appointment is a dismissal. Decisions for dismissal shall be considered in accordance with the "Problem Resolution Procedures."

Cause for dismissal, includes, but is not limited to, one or more of the following:

  • substantial failure to discharge the responsibilities and duties of a faculty member;
  • any substantial interruption of service to the Institute which has not been approved by the Board of Trustees;
  • sexual harassment;
  • willful and deliberate noncompliance with the "Policy on Equal Opportunity;"
  • moral turpitude;
  • unprofessional conduct which seriously and detrimentally affects the educational or research goals of the Institute or which might cause the Institute to be held in disrepute or legal consequences.

The termination of a faculty member because of substantial specialty or program modifications, grant/soft fund ending, or financial exigencies, is not a dismissal. A nonrenewal is not a dismissal.
