Special Education M.Ed.—with Concentration in Severe Intellectual Disabilities (SID)

Admission Requirements

A completed application form accompanied by a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work.
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in all undergraduate course work.
Three Candidate Reference Forms accompanied by three letters of recommendation.
A Performance-Based Evaluation.
Completion of SPED 300 and SPED 210 or SPED 310 (or equivalent determined by the Special Education advisor).
An essay describing the candidate’s commitment to special education, cultural awareness, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Documentation of eligibility for RI Certification in one of the following areas of teacher education:
- Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Middle School Education
- Secondary Education
An interview may be required.
