Mathematics Exam Policy
Mathematics Exam Policy, Prelicensure Nursing
Students will take a mathematics exam in each clinical course where meds are given in the clinical setting. This includes NS-520/NS-661, NS-530A/NS-685, NS-530B/NS-680.
The mathematics exam is to be administered prior to the first day of clinical per the course schedule. Exams will be timed, with 3 minutes per question and 20 questions maximum, and will be given in class or virtually.
The required passing grade for each math exam is 100%. If the mathematics exam is given in person, a basic calculator is permitted. Cell phones, smart watches, or other devices are not permitted in place of a basic calculator. For exams given on D2L, a basic calculator will be provided on D2L.
The first attempt on the mathematics exam will be the grade of record for the assignment.
Students who do not pass with 100% on the first attempt will be required to meet with a teaching assistant or academic support staff member for mathematics remediation prior to the second exam being scheduled.
Students who do not pass with 100% on the second attempt will again be required to meet with a teaching assistant or academic support staff member for mathematics remediation prior to the third exam being scheduled.
Failure on the third attempt (score less than 100%) will result in a clinical warning. Students who do not pass with 100% on the third attempt will again be required to meet with a teaching assistant or academic support staff member and the faculty of record of the course for mathematics remediation prior to the final exam attempt being scheduled.
Failure on the fourth attempt will result in a second clinical warning and clinical failure.
Students will not be permitted to administer medications in the clinical setting until passing the mathematics exam with 100%.
