GEN 203 NLU & You: Tools & Strategies for Student Success

This course introduces students to skills and strategies that can contribute to success at National Louis University and beyond. Students will practice navigating required technologies and university platforms, and will gain foundational skills in research, writing, and academic honesty. Through engaging with the NLU community and relevant support services, students will also learn strategies for effective written communication, self-advocacy, and independent inquiry, which can be applied in future coursework and careers. GEN 204 Make Your Point: Essential Skills for Academic Writing & Research

This course examines foundational concepts and key strategies for academic research writing. Students will explore and engage in the academic research process, with particular emphasis on finding sources, evaluating online information, and integrating outside sources into their work. Students will practice selecting and citing relevant evidence, organizing ideas, and applying reflection and feedback to create a compelling and cohesive academic argument. Pre-requisite(s): None. GEN 210 Think Global-Perspectives from the Field

The undergraduate capstone experience is designed to bring reflection and focus to the whole of the college experience. It should encourage students to integrate facets of their area of concentration with important concepts from related disciplines. This culminating college experience should focus on some feature of the student's area of concentration and should require the disciplined use of skills, methodology, and knowledge taught throughout the undergraduate curriculum. This experience is designed for General Studies Track students in HP3. Laboratory course is required for Pathways students. Pre-requisite(s): Completion of necessary courses leading to culminating capstone experience, or at the discretion of the program director . Co-requisite(s): None. 3-5 quarter hours

GEN 297I Career Development Seminar

The Career Development Seminar focuses on analyzing and developing skills in order to succeed in job interviews and within a workplace setting. Students will evaluate various strategies to utilize during a job interview, complete a mock interview, and self-reflect on their performance. In addition, students will build their knowledge of code-switching, identity and workplace norms by investigating and analyzing scenarios and various readings. Finally, students will gain valuable real-life experience by participating in a job shadow experience that aligns with their area of study. After the job shadow, students will evaluate their individual performance and discuss areas for improvement with the group. Pre-requisite(s): None. Co-requisite(s): None. 0-2 quarter hours

GEN 298 Braven Accelerator Course

The Braven Accelerator course is designed to prepare Undergraduate students for the increasingly competitive, globalized job marketplace. Through blended learning, interactive experiences, and reflection, students will build meaningful networks, discover their innate leadership skills, and cultivate the positive traits needed to thrive in twenty-first century workplaces. Braven participants complete weekly online modules and assignments to develop in five professional competencies: Operating and managing, problem solving, working in teams, networking and communicating, and self-driven leadership.
