Dance Minor

A Dance minor provides students in any field an opportunity to engage in a range of dance experiences that: 1) contribute to the liberal education of students regardless of their major, 2) will be applicable to graduate study or professional work in a variety of fields, such as performance, therapy, education, journalism, or cultural studies, and 3) provide a basis for lifelong learning and personal development. The Dance minor is designed to be flexible and to accommodate each student’s interests and goals.

The purpose of the Dance minor is to develop: understanding of the principles and concepts of Dance as a discipline; basic technical skill in at least two dance forms such as modern dance, jazz dance, folk dance, ballet, or social dance; creative ability; and capacity to apply dance in educational, recreational, or other professional settings.

Proficiency Requirements for Retention in and Completion of the Minor —A grade of C (2.0 GPA) or higher in each required Dance minor course and in each prerequisite and collateral course is required for continuation in the minor. Students not receiving a grade of C or higher may repeat that particular course to raise the grade while remaining in the minor program.

Additional Considerations for the Minor— Designated summer courses may be used for the Dance Minor. PED 245 may be approved on a term-by-term basis to meet the Active Learning Experience (ALE) requirement. (Check the Schedule of Classes to see if the course has been approved for a specific term.)
