SPE 445 Foundations of Special Education: Dignity, Rights, and Advocacy

This course explores the historical, philosophical, and legal foundations of individuals with disabilities. Candidates learn techniques for fostering positive relationships within the school community, emphasizing equity, advocacy, and adherence to ethical guidelines. They examine models for effective team building and strategies for collaboration among professionals, para-professionals, and external agencies. Additionally, candidates develop strategies for supporting socially, culturally, and linguistically diverse families, accessing community resources, and promoting social-emotional support within disability communities. Through reflective practices, candidates gain insights into planning and implementing inclusive learning environments tailored to the diverse needs of students with exceptionalities.
