EDU 572 Creating Diverse and Equitable Classrooms

This course is designed to explore topics related to building equitable classroom environments that address the learning needs of a diverse population of students. The course prepares candidates to plan lessons, understand assessment strategies and use data to drive instruction, understand the methods of reading and content area reading, and engage in instructional practices to meet the educational needs of diverse students. Candidates are introduced to the Culturally Relevant Teaching and Leading Standards (CRTL) and practices for identifying and teaching students with disabilities and multilingual learners (including Special Education and English as a Second Language). Candidates are introduced to strategies to design and facilitate equitable, inclusive and engaged learning communities.
