SEC 377 Literacy in the Middle and Secondary Content Areas

This course focuses on the development of literacy in the middle and secondary grades. It focuses on critical thinking, textual analysis, media and information literacy, vocabulary enrichment, writing skills, study skills, and cultural awareness. This course provides methods and materials for content area literacy, disciplinary literacy, and reading and writing across the curriculum as articulated in the NCTS, NGSS, NCSS, and Common Core State Standards for Grades 6-12 in Mathematics, History/Social Studies, Science & Technical Subjects. Teacher candidates will be provided with the chance to participate in hands-on, practice- based learning of literacy techniques that foster the integration and adaptation of new ideas.
