Anth 525 Perspectives in Medical Anthropology

Examination of critical, interpretive, and ecological perspectives in medical anthropology. Anthropological study of practice of biomedicine in the United States, and response to global diseases, including AIDS. Topics include the new medical technologies, social meanings of the body, bioethics, and the medicalization of social problems. Also offered for undergraduate-level credit as Anth 425 and may be taken only once for credit. Expected preparation: Anth 325 or 8 credits of socio-cultural anthropology.
