Reading Program

National College of Education’s Reading program is designed for teachers already holding initial certification who are interested in developing their teaching or in qualifying as Reading Specialists or Reading Teachers.

There are different state requirements for Reading Specialist and Reading Teacher. Visit the Illinois State Board of Education for specific requirements, updates and amendments.

The Reading, M.Ed. (Reading Specialist—Type 10 Certification) is intended for those who do not have a master’s degree.

The Reading, M.S.Ed. (Reading Specialist—Type 10 Certification) is a scholarly program that includes a thesis and is intended for those who may plan to continue on to post-graduate study.

The Reading, C.A.S. (Reading Specialist—Type 10 Certification) is intended for those who already have a master’s degree.

The Reading, M.Ed. (Reading Teacher Option) is intended for those who do not have a master’s degree.
