Reading, M.S.Ed. (Reading Teacher Option)
This program is designed for teachers already holding initial certification who are interested in developing their literacy teaching or in applying to be a Reading Teacher. The reading sequence fulfills the state of Illinois guidelines for the preparation of Reading Teachers. Visit the Illinois State Board of Education for specific requirements, updates and amendments.
As a Master of Science in Education degree, this program is also designed to enable students to pursue continued study at the post master’s level.
In addition to National College of Education Graduate Admissions Requirements, applicants must:
- Submit official scores from the Miller Analogies Test
- Have a valid teaching certificate
- Pass the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)
- Have at least two years of full-time contract teaching under a valid and active teaching certificate
This degree requires:
- 37 SH
- A five-week summer practicum
- A thesis
- Membership in professional literacy organization
- An electronic portfolio
