RBT 100 Registered Behavior Technician Certification Preparation

This course is intended to prepare students to complete their certification as a Registered Behavior Technician by providing the training necessary to demonstrate proficiency in the RBT Task List. Students will learn the basic principles of applied behavior analysis and how to apply this knowledge within professional settings supporting behavior change for their clients. Students will learn about professional conduct and the scope of practice as an RBT, including the role of supervision and how to maintain client dignity. Additionally, students will be taught tools to effectively demonstrate the basic skill competencies in measurement, assessment, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, and documentation, to be effective behavior practitioners and meet the demands of their positions as RBTs. This training program is based on the current RBT Task List and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement for RBT certification. The program is offered independent of the BACB. RBT 110 Registered Behavior Technician Practicum I

During Practicum I, students will begin working as Registered Behavior Technicians under the supervision of an NLU employer partner. They will complete their employment onboarding process, participate in their competency assessment and sit for the RBT certification exam - two milestones required by the BACB for certification. Additionally, they will be paired with their first client and begin practicing professionally in the field of ABA. Students in Practicum I will participate in continuous reflection cycles in which they will assess their strengths and areas for improvement in their work with their client, identify focus areas and specific actions to take to improve, implement action plans, and reflect on the outcome. Students will further refine their implementation of the RBT Task List, strengthen their communication with stakeholders, and deepen their understanding of concepts such as cultural humility and client dignity. This course provides students with a cohort of peers who are also new to the RBT profession, on whom they can lean for support, advice, and encouragement. Every week, time spent on this course will on average follow a breakdown of 15% working with a client, 15% in synchronous virtual class sessions, and 70% on asynchronous class assignments. RBT 120 Registered Behavior Technician Practicum II

During Practicum II, students will gain momentum in their careers as Registered Behavior Technicians. In this course, students will increase the number of hours they are working as RBTs and serving clients, working towards full-time employment. Students will continue to engage in cycles of reflection on their practice as RBTs as well as their long- term career aspirations. As a cohort, students will support one another in assessing real-time case studies and developing plans to better serve their clients. By the conclusion of this course, students will express confidence in their skills as RBTs, in navigating their new workplace, and in their career plans for the future. Every week, time spent on this course will on average follow a breakdown of 50% working with a client, 15% in synchronous virtual class sessions, and 35% on asynchronous class assignments. The program is offered independent of the BACB. Pre-requisite(s): RBT 110. Co-requisite(s): CAR 204. 4 quarter hours
